Petek, Finsbury Park

Living in Canonbury, you get to appreciate Turkish food. With so many places in Dalston and Newington Green - you have to split Turkish into 3 categories: Which has the best Kebabs? Which has the best Hummus? Which was the best falafel?

Petek is definetely one of my favourites. A little off the beaten track in Finsbury Park, on quite a nasty main road - but inside is quite nice looking, with lots of coloured candles and decor on the walls - much better looking and less grubby than the places in Dalston. We had the falafel, hummus and mix of lamb and chicken shish kofte kebabs.

First thing to note is the portions are obscene. Not only do you get lovely hot bread, olives and tomato sauce as soon as you walk in, but the meze starters were so big - the falafel order had 4 huge falafels - which i could have had as my whole meal. This wouldn't be a bad thing either, because Petek's falafels are Incredible - the best i've had in London. Really light and crisp on the outside, without being too dry on the inside, and with a welcome touch of mint too. The hummus is tasty, and the lamb kebabs are excellent. The chicken was a little dull especially compared to the Chicken Beyti Kebabs at 19 Numara Bos Cirrik in Dalston which are the best Kebabs i've ever had.

All in all, Petek is still probably our favourite Turkish restaurant - if they found a way of offering those Beyti kebabs it would be just perfect
