During my X'mas vacations back home in Sweden, I took the opportunity to have a nice bit of steak with a friend at the well-reputed restaurant Grill in Stockholm.
We ordered a bottle of red Australian wine: A 2007 Shiraz from Cape Mentelle. It was a good wine with nice texture that goes well with any grilled steak with its smoky oak and pepper notes. Quite a spicy bouquet - perfect for steak.
I wasn't starving so I skipped the starter and ordered a charcoal grilled sirloin steak right away. I ordered it "rare". The steak came accompanied with Caesar salad, home made fries, marinated tomato, Bearnaise sauce and red wine sauce. My utterest fare - The steak was medium- which I wasn't happy about (Swedish medium corresponds to French well done). I pointed it out to the waitress who excused herself on the behalf of the chef and offered me the steak for free.
I accepted thinking: "- Cool! Free steak!" Very professionally done.
Dessert: Pear tiramisu with lingon berry, coffee and cardamom. I had it with Spanish sherry.
When the bill came, the waitress had deducted the steak and the dessert for me – which was more than professional.
